They play a key role in ecological balance. The gamut of variation of the insect-plant interactions ranges from simple phytophagism to the most complex system of balanced parasitism on the insect side and self-defence adaptive strategies on the host-plant side. The evolutionary culmination of insect-plant interactions is manifested by the morbid outgrowths or the Galls.
